Setting Up Resource Types and Resources

Resources Types are categories that can be created within the Environmental Data Platform, making it possible to keep track of all your Resources within a Log. Generators are an example of a Resource Type, with generator-1, generator-2, and generator-3 all being Resources.

Creating a Resource Type

Note: Only organization admins can do this.

To begin creating a new resource type, make sure you’re in the ‘Data Setup’ tab of your green navigation bar, then click on ‘Resources‘. Finally, click on the blue ‘Create New Resource Type’ in the top right corner of your screen.

Step 1: Basic Info

This is where you’ll be able to enter basic information about your Resource Type, like a name, description, and site association.

Note: Site Association associates each of your resources with a single site. Once Resources are added, this setting cannot be changed.

Step 2: Properties

This is where you can add a property to your Resource Type. Think of each resource property as a column header in your spreadsheet.

For example, the number field can be used to keep track of the weight of a given material by a resource (for example, paint coating)

Clicking on "Add Resource" will allow you to add an individual resource and fill out the required values we defined in the previous step.

Once you have entered your values, click on "Done."

Clicking on "Upload from file" will allow you to upload a document (.csv, .tsv, .xls, .xlsx, .xml, .txt) containing your Resources and upload them in one bulk action. If you don't have a document, you can also manually enter your Resource information in the provided spreadsheet.

💡 Note: To upload a file, you will need a header row. If there isn't one present, the first row of data will be used as a header and will not be included in the uploaded data.

Map your incoming fields to the fields in Mapistry. Hovering over a field will allow you to preview your data on the right. Once your data is mapped, click 'Continue.'
